Good news for Cheadle’s George and Dragon?

As you may know, fly-posting has been a problem particularly on the now closed George & Dragon pub in Cheadle. Because it’s a privately owned building, it’s more complicated to get it removed.

I wrote to Punch Taverns, who own the pub, asking if they would remove the fly-posting or, failing that, authorise me to remove fly-posting on their behalf.

I’ve now received a reply, which is they won’t do that because they’re hopeful a sale is imminent and the new owners should clear it up.

We’ll wait and see, but having that building under new ownership and, hopefully, being put to good use, would be very positive for the village.

Typical Punch Taverns; sky high rents and zero community spirit; lets hope a new tenant can add to Cheadle’s high street

Sounds like a “cop-out” on the part of Punch Taverns

I can understand Punch’s position in not wanting to spend on something they’re about to get rid of. I believe they have been actively trying to downsixe their portfolio in the last couple of years – the recession and the impact of the smoking ban being causes.

The possible good news is that they seem to have often disposed of pubs to buyers wanting to establish independent restaurants.

Hi Tony,

I’ll see if I can find out where it’s got to – it is a little worrying that nothing seems to have happened on the site yet.

Is there any progress on the G&D? The planning poster outside the pub is no longer there. Has Dorbiere pulled out? Unfortunately this place remains an eyesore yet should be the crown jewel within the village.
