Stockport – help in the snow

by Lib Dem team on 4 February, 2012

With the snow arriving, the gritters are out across Stockport and our winter plan is operational.

We’ve been out and about this morning (Sunday) and the main gritting routes all seem very clear. The other roads we checked (e.g. Troutbeck and Keswick) are passable – they’ll be gritted if needed.

There are a couple of locations we know have problems and don’t have a grit box that close, and we’ve spread some grit there to help residents (Rydal Close in Gatley and part of The Spinney in Cheadle).

But grit isn’t a magic solution. It helps melt the snow, especially on busier roads where the traffic grinds it into the snow. We still need to take care on the roads and pavements.

The snow code gives advice on clearing snow from pavements and public spaces. You can do your bit by clearing snow in front of your property.

If you have to travel in the snow, here are some useful tips on doing it safely.

If you’re a Cheadle and Gatley resident and you’re concerned about anything or need some help, please get in touch with the Lib Dem team.

Park Lodge Close,Cheadle also has problems on two inclines and two bends when it is bad, of which I notified the council of last year, I and other vehicles have been stuck on this road for a couple of days the last couple of years, a grit box halfway along the road would help alot, is there any chance?

    Hi Bob,

I think we can sort out something – I’ll make enquiries.

The pavements on Stockport Road, Cheadle between Bulkley Road and the Shepherds Offices that I keep complaining about, time and again because of severe uneveness which causes water holding, became very dangerous last week because the path in certain spots became like an ice rink and because the footpath is not very wide in this aream, the icy path could not be avoided.
We have just read the Local Voice and note that our MP Mark Hunter states that you are all working for cylists and Pedestrains. In view of these remarks, maybe you ‘ll bear us in mind at this end of Cheadle?
