La Cucina licence change goes to committee, 17th Feb

by Lib Dem team on 10 February, 2012

La Cucina in Cheadle has applied to change its licence – to extend the hours of operation to 1.30am each day.

Local residents have been concerned of the impact of music being played and alcohol served that late into the night, and the Lib Dems have worked with residents to ensure their concerns are properly considered.

The decision will be taken by the “Licensing, Environment & Safety Sub-Committee B (not Cheadle Area Committee) on Friday, 17th February, 2012 at 1.30 pm, where it will be item five on the agenda. It is going to committee because there were objections from residents – otherwise it would have been decided by council officers.

You can see both the original application and the papers for committee on the Stockport Council website here.

    Hi Iain,

I have to agree with the consensus of opinion on this one, the back of la cuchina (the bbq area) is fine up to a certain time but is literally within 20 feet of local residential housing – so local residents certainly shouldn’t be expected to ensure noise up to the early hours in the morning. Correct me if I am wrong, but weren’t Tesco under certain terms of agreement about the times of deliveries so as not to disturb local residents? So why should la cuchina be any different.

Is the meeting on friday is it open to the public? If so, why is the meeting time made when the majority of working people cannot get there.

    Cheers,

    Kath

    Hi Kath,

Stockport’s quite unusual in having mostly evening meetings (most councils have most meetings during the working day, whether they’re open to the public or not, but we deliberately have them in the evening).

I don’t know why this one is an exception. As far as I know, it’s open to the public, but it’s not one I’ve ever attended. Call Sarah Tooth on 474 4176 or email sarah.tooth@stockport.gov.uk for more info.

This appears to me to be a restaurant so I would expect it to close about midnight at the latest.
I see no need for late night licences in residential neighbourhoods: such licences serve to encourage late night excessive drinking, drunkeness and noise in the neighbourhood…which is not desirable.

If you need to drink and party after midnight got to M/C they cater for that.I do not agree with extending the hours as once one does it the rest will follow…
