Noisy, clanking manhole covers in the road can be pretty annoying – especially if you live next to one and have to put up with it day and night whenever anything drives over it.
We’ve tackled a few of these – the latest outside The Hollies on Gatley Road (near the junction with Cambridge Road).
Because most of the covers aren’t Council property, the Council can’t sort them out itself. Instead, it serves a legal notice on the relevant company (e.g. United Utilities or Virgin Media) and then chases them to sort it. It can take a little while, but it normally gets done.
Let us know if you spot a noisy manhole cover and we’ll work to get it fixed.

When did you sort out the clanging manhole cover by the Hollies? A couple of days ago my dog nearly jumped out of his skin as a van went over it, that is less than 48 hours ago.

The Council has issued the order to have Virgin Media sort it, but it isn’t done yet – we still Virgin Media to do their bit.
In the pavement outside the Cancer Care Shop. Cheadle High St.there’s a noisy metal cover which is very noisy, not sure who is resposible for it, but it’s been like that for too long.
