Tackling football parking in Cheadle

by Lib Dem team on 9 March, 2012

Following complaints from residents, the Lib Dem team have been speaking to Police and the Council about the problem of football match-day parking around Grange Park Road, Cheadle – several junior teams play on the fields.

As a result, the Council has written to the three football clubs who use the fields (Cheadle Heath Nomads JFC, South Manchester Sports FC & Juno United JFC) reminding them that they should not be parking on Grange Park Road, Grange Park Avenue or Danesbury Rise, but instead should be using the marked bays at the top of Ashfield Road and on the Massie Street car parks (which are free on Sundays).

We’ll continue to pursue this and work to get the parking improved.

    Hi Iain,

I have very sympathy with residents over parking problems in cheadle but would just like a point of confirmation please if poss, why can’t the field users park on grange park road – is it residents only parking or are cars parking on yellow lines?

    Cheers,

    Hi Kath,

As part of the conditions to use the field for football, the clubs are asked to ensure those coming use the parking spaces on Ashfield Road or Massie Street.

In some cases, parkers may be breaking the law (e.g. if they park so that residents can’t physically get their cars out of their driveways).

In other cases, the Council has the option of refusing bookings if people are unable to park where asked, though of course that’s a final resort – we want the parks to be well used, and we want kids to be playing sport, but we also want to do it with as little inconvenience to local residents as possible.
