New Gatley Carrs boardwalk taking shape

by Lib Dem team on 7 June, 2012

Gatley Carrs is getting a new boardwalk over the pond – with a special low rail to make it easier and safer for kids to lean over and get closer to the pondlife.

A team from The Conservation Volunteers (formerly BTCV) are doing a fantastic job on construction and hope to be finished by the end of next week.

So why not drop by Gatley’s very own nature reserve and take a look.

Thanks for the publicity. Anyone wishing to see the Conservation volunteers at work will find them there on Wednesday and Thursday between 10.00 am and 3.30 pm. If the weather is as bad as the last two weeks they need all the encouragement you can give them.

The old boardwalk will be left in place for the time being but should be used with caution.

Funding provided by Manchester Forever, Stockport Funding with the help of drawings and letters from pupils at Gatley Primary school and other Gatley residents

How does one get to this site from Gatley railway station?

Walk down gatley Road towards the Horse and Farrier then turn right down Old Hall road. At the bottom of the road you will see a brown sign pointing you down Brookside Road. Walk down to the end of Brookside Road and you arrive at the Carr Park.

You can walk around the fields through the kissing gates, but if you want to find the dipping pond and boardwalk you should turn left along the footpath by stream just before you arrive at the Car Park. You can then carry on down the path, turn right and climb the steps by Lorna Grove bridge and make your way back onto the fields.

    Good luck!
