Park Road repairs

by Lib Dem team on 5 December, 2012

Park Road in Gatley recently had a resurface. Unfortunately part of it is breaking up, which shouldn’t be happening. We’ve chased it up with the Council and the contractors will have to repair the faulty work.

It’s worth saying something about the reason the work’s done this way.

With limited amounts of money, councils want to get the best value on road fixing. The way you do that is to use this sort of resurfacing. It can’t be done if the state of the road is too bad, but if you can catch the road before it deteriorates too far, it should last for several years. Importantly, it’s about a sixth of the cost of a full resurface – which means that using this method we can repair six roads for the same cost as doing a full resurface on one.

With budgets being squeezed year on year, finding the most cost-effective ways to maintain our road network is absolutely essential.

Will the contractors also be sweeping up the stone chips? There appears to be excessive quantities getting churned up by vehicles which are presumably damaging their paintwork and from personal experience, the chips are hitting pedestrians.

This needs to be done now! the road is getting worse, the paintwork on my car that i bought on the 24th of December is getting worse and everyones patience is wearing thin. Surely its not cost effective to have to keep on resurfacing this road? can it be done properly and can i have an address to send my bill from the car body shop.
