New lines: you say, we do

by Lib Dem team on 8 April, 2014

Not every problem can be easily solved, but where we can sort it out and residents want it, we work hard to make it happen.

Three recent examples.

The Mews
photo (97)Residents of The Mews, off Springfield Road, Gatley complained that cars were parking on the junction, making it difficult and dangerous to pull out. We put double-yellow lines around the junction, extending 10 meters each way.

This “junction protection” reinforces the Highway Code rule that there should be no parking within 10m of a junction.

Pendlebury Road

A local resident suggested that putting white lines at the junctions with the minor roads off Pendlebury Road, Gatley would improve safety. We surveyed all local residents in the area and, of those who responded, over 90% were in favour. The lines were painted soon after.

Valley Road

Residents on Valley Road, near Bruntwood Park, are concerned about park users leaving their cars on the road. After a consultation, we’ve put double yellow lines round the junction, extending a little further into Valley Road than normal. We may have to look at additional measures too.

I regularly walk around the local area (for exercise) and always see double yellows abused – Mill Lane, Valley Road, roads around Gatley Station and Church Road. Without strong enforcement it will continue. Too many believe they live in “The ‘If I can get away with it’ Society encouraged by Government cuts in policing and support staff.

I wish the council would repair Grasmere Rd properly – there is a really deep hole just beyond the first right-hand bend. It’s been there two weeks now. Really clunks the suspension.

  3. Iain Roberts says:

Agree on Buttermere – that’s why we’re putting £100 million into properly repairing roads and pavements across the Borough – we need to get beyond patching and do the job properly.
