Styal Road resurfacing completed

by Lib Dem team on 28 October, 2014

The Lib Dem £100 million investment in repairing our roads and pavements started in Gatley with Styal Road – a busy local road in very poor condition.

The road is mostly in Stockport but a small section passes through Manchester and at first Manchester Council said they would not pay to have their part repaired. They then relented, allowing us to get the whole length of road repaired.

The repairs are now completed and the lines have been repainted. The section from Church Road to South Drive has been fully resurfaced, then down to Yew Tree Drive the sections needing repair have been done. The repairs were completed in line with the schedule, despite last week’s bad weather and all that’s left is to brush up loose material and clear away the cabin and other equipment, which will be done in the next couple of days.

This is the start of the biggest programme of road repairs Stockport’s ever seen – it will last for several years and see hundreds of roads resurfaced across the borough.

The contractors have done a good job and in my experience, all with very little disruption and inconvenience to Styal Road rush hour traffic.

Can you please differentiate between LIbDem investments and ‘coalition’ investments?
Also, are all ‘investments’/good news down to the LibDems and all the cuts/bad news down to the Tories?

    Excellent resurfacing of Styal Road.
We no longer have a ‘rumble’ in our bungalow when a large vehicle goes past.
God job, done well, with minimum disruption.

I feel its a pity that while repainting the white lines, the section between Firs Grove and Church Road was not provided with central double white lines to prevent overtaking in this area. More preferable still would be to paint double white lines all the way to Simonsway. There is no reason to speed along this road.
