Local campaigner Graham Greenhalgh has been selected to fight for Cheadle and Gatley as the Lib Dem candidate in the 2015 local elections. Cllr Pam King is to stand down in May after 13 years public service for our area.

Graham has lived locally on Borrowdale Avenue with his family for 25 years and has been an important part of the Lib Dem team for some time.

Cllr Iain Roberts said “In the years that Pam has worked for our area she’s made a huge difference. I’ve long since lost count of the number of people who tell me Pam has worked hard for them and sorted out a problem – that’s what being a local councillor is all about. Graham has big shoes to fill, but I’ve no doubt at all he will be an excellent addition to the team.”

In her years as councillor for Cheadle and Gatley, Pam has taken on many responsibilities beyond her work in the ward. She served as Chair of the Regeneration Scrutiny Committee from 2002-04, was a member of the Sports Trust 2002-3 and Executive Member For Leisure 2005-7. During this time Pam visited our French Twin Town of Bezier with Stockport football and swimming teams. Teams from our other Twin Town of Heilbronn also attended so many young people had the opportunity to compete and meet. When Stockport won the National Final of Britain in Bloom it gave us a place in the international competition which was held in Canada: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. This was truly an international event with countries from all over the world attending. It was funded by British Aerospace at no cost to Stockport and Pam had the privilege of attending and representing Stockport.

Pam was elected as Mayor for 2008/09 – a great honour, especially as it was the Centenary of the Town Hall and a year of much celebration. She served as a member of the Greater Manchester Fire Authority from 2010 to 12 and as Chair of Cheadle Area Committee for two years.

On 7th May 2015 Graham Greenhalgh will be the Lib Dem candidate for Cheadle & Gatley in the local elections, with local MP Mark Hunter defending his seat in the General Election.

Pam King has been a Fantastic Councillor over the years and the people of Cheadle owe her great thanks for the tireless work she has put in.

If the new Candidate is to be as good as Pam then he has a lot of work to do.

    Thanks to Pam.

I’ll never forgive Pam King for agreeing, when she was school governor at Cheadle Primary School, to class sizes of 42 and 43.
