Council consults on Stonepail Road yellow lines

by Lib Dem team on 12 January, 2015

Following concerns from residents about crossing the road at the junction of Stonepail Road and Church Road in Gatley, the Lib Dem team has asked the Council to consult on putting double yellow lines around the junction.

It’s a difficult location for further works: Church Road is too narrow at that point for a traffic island and the number of people crossing wouldn’t justify pedestrian lights with other crossing points so near, but having a clear gap at the junction makes sense.

As ever, this would be a compromise as it would lose parking space for 3-4 cars and Gatley’s already very short of parking.

The Council has delivered letters to local residents around Peckforton Close and Stonepail Road – if you receive a letter, please reply and let the Council know what you think.

Good idea. Go for it – with this pedestrians blessing !

  2. Mark McIntyre says:

As per DR C. Signed – Resident Pedestrian !

Crossing Church Road opposite the Tesco is more of a problem to be honest. In fact this proposal may lead to vehicles entering the junction at higher speeds when the parked vehicles are removed.

That’s a fair point, Steven. Unfortunately, with other crossing points so close and Church Road quite narrow there, officers don’t think it’s possible to put another crossing point along that section. This should at least give people better visibility when crossing the road.

Much needed – I regularly walk there, but even more needed is 20mph limit for all of Church Road. It is a crowded shopping street, narrowed by parked vehicles both sides restricting pedestrian view of traffic when trying to cross. This must affect the shops business as well. Safety of paint re-spray is more of a concern to many drivers than heads poking out to estimate danger. Please reduce speed and effectively enforce. I also drive there on rare occasions bur prefer to walk – more social and scenic, less fuel cost (food is cheaper than petrol per mile) but most important good exercise.

Easy decision really just follow advice given in the highway code !

    DO NOT stop or park:

    near a school entrance
anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services
at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank
on the approach to a level crossing/tramway crossing
opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
near the brow of a hill or hump bridge
opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle
where you would force other traffic to enter a tram lane
where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles
in front of an entrance to a property
    on a bend
where you would obstruct cyclists’ use of cycle facilities except when forced to do so by stationary traffic.
