Cheadle Area Committee report back – 14th April 2015

by Lib Dem team on 14 April, 2015

Cheadle Area Committee (the nine councillors for Cheadle & Gatley, Cheadle Hulme North and Heald Green) met at 6pm this evening to a packed room, with three contentious planning applications on the agenda. it was also Cllr Pam King’s last area committee and last council meeting before she steps down at the election.

  • We had a presentation from Stockport CAB on the work they do.
  • £452.92 was awarded to All Hallows Church on Councillor Lane – they applied for funds to pay for equipment for their new youth group.
  • Cheadle Golf Club’s application for £1000 to develop “Foot-golf” on the Bruntwood Park pitch-and-putt site (alongside the more traditional golf) was approved.
  • Planning application 57255 (extension to 10 Delamere Road) was sent for a site visit. It will then go to full Planning & Highways Committee for a decision. Residents had concerns and we couldn’t tell from the plans whether the application should be approved so councillors on Planning & Highways will go on site to see for themselves next week before taking the final decision.
  • Planning application 57581 (convert Bruntwood Hall into boutique hotel) was rejected. I like the hotel proposal itself, but neither I nor other members of the committee were persuaded that the parking being created was sufficient in an already-busy Bruntwood Park. The applicants have the option of appealing the decision to the planning inspector.
  • Planning application 57661 (build four new houses in the gardens behind 11 and 13 Albert Road, Cheadle Hulme) was sent for a site visit with the final decision to be taken by the Planning & Highways Committee next week.
  • Planning application 57843 (extension to 48 Davies Avenue, Heald Green) was approved, there being no grounds to reject it.
  • The committee considered an objection to the proposed 20mph limit for the Clifton/Windsor area in Gatley and decided that the proposals should go ahead.
  • We approved new double yellow lines at the junctions of Calderbrook Drive/Councillor Lane, Evesham Road/Councillor Lane and Hereford Road/Councillor Lane plus new  limited stopping regulations along the south side of that section of Councillor Lane.
  • We approved new double yellow lines at the junction of Stonepail Road and Church Road, Gatley
  • Cheadle Hulme North councillors decided to fund an extended drop kerb on Byron Drive for a disabled resident – they considered the case to be exceptional and drop kerbs are normally funded by the residents who want them.
  • We agreed the enforced sale of 15 Gloucester Road, Heald Green – a property which has been empty and causing problems since 2007, with thousands of pounds owing in council tax and the owners unable to be traced. This will allow the property to be brought back into use.
  • An application to hold Makers’ Markets on Cheadle Green on 6th June, 4th July and 1st August 2015 was approved.

    Hi,

I thought no decisions could be made by Councillors during Purdah?

    regards,

    kath

    • Iain says:

Not at all. Purdah is about the council not promoting councillors who are up for election, but the business of the council continues.

  2. Garry says:

It’s all good and well putting down double yellow lines. But little point if they aren’t enforced. Oak Road is a good example. Patrons of the conservative club regular flout the lines by parking on them in the evenings. But nothing is ever done about it.

    • Iain Roberts says:

Traffic wardens can’t be everywhere all the time, but they do enforce and do hand out tickets. We can ask the to pay extra attention to that area outside the conservative club.
