by Lib Dem team on 15 April, 2015

Milestone Birthday for landmark Stockport Museum to be celebrated with a Chimney make-over and a ‘Super Sunday’ Birthday Party.

Stockport’s iconic Hat Works, the UK’s only museum dedicated to the hatting industry, hats and headwear, turns 15 years old this April.

Stockport Council is keen for this unique museum and landmark to look its best for the occasion and, in preparation, the Hat Works impressive and most prominent 200ft chimney is currently being repaired by steeplejacks, who are also repainting the giant letters that sign post the museum to everyone passing through Stockport Town Centre.

To mark this milestone birthday, the Hat Works is also throwing a public Birthday Party on Sunday 26th April. This celebration will launch the museum’s first ever ‘Super Sunday’ event and it promises to be an action packed, fun-filled day with activities for all ages.

The ‘Super Sunday’ theme is fittingly a Mad Hatters Tea Party and there will be a range of entertainment on offer from music and dance to hatting tours, pottery painting, balloon modelling, crafts and cake.

The doors will open and 10am and close at 4pm. Admission to the museum and the party is free, but there will be a small charge for some activities.

Peter Ashworth, Head of Culture & Leisure for Stockport Council, said: “We sincerely hope that as many people as possible come along to help us celebrate the Hat Works 15th Birthday. The museum is an iconic Stockport landmark, which gives a glimpse into the town’s history and the industry on which it was built on.”
