Interest in Gatley Rec building

The Council has received several expressions of interest in the Gatley Rec building after putting it on the market.
The idea came from the local community – the building has long been an eyesore in the park but there’s not been the money to do anything with it. Hopefully it can be put to good use and again become a local asset.
The Lib Dem team have also had the waste bin outside Gatley Memorial Park replaced. The old concrete bin on Northenden Road, by the bus stop, had broken and only the base remained. A new bin is now in its place.

This is certainly useful if the lessee improves the appearance and condition of the property.
However, serious consideration should and must be given to its use, it will not be appropriate for certain uses for example a taxi office.
This would only attract, noise, disorder, damage and rubbish and would have a serious consequences on the immediate surrounding area resulting in detrimental effects on residents and property and the use of the park itself..
how much is it on the market for? And will the money go towards local use or be swallowed up at the Town Hall?
In Didsbury the traders have turned the pavilion into a lovely cafe manned by volunteers. A superb use I think.

Estelle -you’d have to phone up and register your interest. The money would go to the Council to be used in the borough. Just as Cheadle & Gatley can benefit from money made from the sale of buildings in other parts of Stockport, they can benefit from the sale of buildings in our part.
The owners of Piccolos have shown interest in this hence it has gone to the open market. No doubt will be a café run by them. All good in my opinion.
I lke how you claim that you replaced the concrete bin outside the memorial park. I reported before you even knew about it, and alerted Iain to a daft response which I got about replacing my home waste bin!!
